Cutting Board Gifts

These are a few cutting boards that we made this past Christmas as gifts for friends and family. The wood used includes Black Walnut, Purpleheart, Maple and Curly Maple. The boards are finished using mineral oil and beeswax for a food safe finish. The glue used was Titebond III. These are great little projects to practice milling, glue-up and finishing skills. We made up little cards that identify the woods used and on the backside have care instructions for the cutting boards. The cards also make the gift look a little more “professional” even though we are just a man, a wife and a garage full of tools:)

Cherry Fireplace Mantel

This is a cherry fireplace mantel that my wife and I just finished. We have a good amount of remodeling experience but not too much in the area of finished woodworking. The mantel is made of cherry, stained with General Finishes Vintage Cherry, Garnett Shellac and multiple coats of satin Lacquer. It was a great project to try out some new router bits and our Apollo HVLP spray gun. We enjoyed taking the rough lumber, milling it and turning it into a finished product. We also did the tilework and flooring. It’s been a long haul remodeling the entire house. Thanks.
