3/4" drill guide for holdfasts and dogholes - 18 replies
As many woodworkers are building benches and drilling 3/4” holes for dogs and holdfasts , why isn’t there a drill guide on the market? You would think that Veritas or Big Gator Tools would see an opportunity for such a product. All it would need to be is a decent size square of aluminum or even UHMW plastic with a 3/4” hole in ...

I made this “guitar” back in high school woodshop class (1993) and don’t plan on ever finishing it. I guess I’m looking for permission to cut this thing back into strips and get some use out of it. I know I can get a wooden spokeshave out of the center strip. What do you think?

I usually buy one or two nice pieces from ebay, where you have multiple pictures of the wood and all it’s ...

Bench top board alignment. - 16 replies
I’m 3/4 done with my Nicholson style bench and am stuck on the top. I’ve got the best southern yellow pine that South Alabama has to offer (which is far from perfect). I’ve got all the joining edges planed smooth, but the boards have bows that I can do nothing about. I clamped all the boards together in a stack hoping they woul...

I am making a bench top out of 2 inch thick by 7 inch wide southern yellow pine boards that will be edge jointed together for a benchtop. I’ve heard that the pith side should be up for use in a benchtop or table. My problem is that the pith sides of each plank contain a few knots that are loose and would need to be dutch patched, while the...
