Mitre Jig for the Table Saw

This is not a new concept nor is it my idea but I thought is was worthwhile sharing. My son recently wanted to make some frames for his university degree & other certificates. He had a little trouble getting the mitres accurate with the basic mitre gauge for the table saw even though I had made an extension piece for it.One of Murphy’s laws says that after you do a job you think of a better more accurate & easier way. Tablesaw spline jig for picture frames

I made this kind of “quick and dirty” jig for cutting splines in the corners of picture frames today and thought I’d share. The frame in the clamp is cherry. I’ll post a pic of the finished frames…when they’re finished. The jig seems to work well, so far. I used to just put a couple of brads in each corner, I think this should be stronger. Greetings all: I’ve had this old Sears contractor saw for 26 years, and it served me well, and still serving me well. After about a week of having it, I knew it was time for a new make-over then. So I took off the old “diamond” wings, (I hated them things..pinched my fingers everytime I used the saw), removed the crappy fence, and went on a “search and destroy” mission. This is my old tablesaw fence. It is a little hard to see from the photo, but I cracked it trying to “micro-adjust” it. So I started to look for an aftermarket fence, of which there are some really nice ones out there.
