You spot the crate planked with 1/2˝ quartersawn, spalted sycamore. As a side note, I took several of these down to level with the Veritas low-angle jack, which made quick work of it with thin full width shavings and no tear-out when used across the grain. I have not cambered it’s iron, as I use it for shooting primarily but it did the preliminary work handily and with minimal waste in thickness.
