A little fun in the shop, closing in on a “tool” and action figure friend box for my grandson Aiden. Aside from the tall end segments fashioned from a random piece of ash (Grampy! Shame!) found around the shop and the baltic birch bottom, the wood is entirely from the 20-some-odd-year-old deck we demolished this summer.
Spindle work sure is fun!
I still have some shaping and tricking out to do, but the carcase work is done. Joinery is Incra variable spaced box joints. I hope it lasts till he loves tools as much (or as badly) as I do.
P.S. Pam has the good camera, so this is from my iPod 5.
I hope the spindle work makes it easy for a six year old to grasp, but it works pretty well for a 58 year old too. No slop side to side on the handle and no glue, although it took a prototype or two to get the fit right.
Next a tray or two. Time to get out the kerfmaker…
