Clever Douglas. I’m a working member of the W. B. L. A. (Wooden Box Lovers Association).

Charlie, you’re already in charge of the “Spalted Division” of the Boxhound Corps
Who’s already in:
Anybody that loves wooden boxes; would like to make them, thought about making them, has them on the list to make someday, made a drawer and thought, “Dang, that’s just about like making a box” or made a cabinet and thought, “Dang, this is just a big ole box.”
Help yourself to the graphic. I just had a flash about a seemingly growing coterie of fellow LJs that like Don, just love wooden boxes (it is my woodworking mania).
Mitered, dovetailed, finger-jointed, bandsawn, turned, formed with a scorp, Kreg-jigged, nailed (yes even nailed), sketched-up’d or imaginary (except no ‘Mimes caught in a box” – gotta draw the line somewhere) they all count.
Gotta work on the secret handshake next…

I thought of Don when I conceived the idea. And since there are no meetings, dues, agenda, membership list, etc. all you have to do is say you are in and Voilà! it’s done. Shirts would be cool. The artwork isn’t resolute enough for print, I fear.

Alright, Blake, here’s your task. Build a box (or think about building one) either one year in the past from today, OR within the next year. Then you have to say (not loud enough so anyone will be disturbed), ”Please, Sir may I build (or think about building) another.” Got it?
Nobody else ever asked to be hazed, so we weren’t prepared with a paddle or anything…

P.S. I’m fiddling with the artwork to make it T-shirt resolution. Might have to check with ScottB about the possibilities.

Well, he made a box…so he’s in. I think we will stick to the simpler hazing ritual, and then only if someone asks for it.
Say, Pappy you could make a box for your paddles. Leather-lined if you so desire. LOL.

Hey now, me thinks you buggers got the wrong impression of ol’ Pappy.
“butt ready to go”
“leather lined paddle boxes”
What the heck is the matter with you? The world is a sick place, I tell you, just sick. All these personages runnin’ ‘round with their minds fixating on me bum. :tsk tsk: I didn’t see ya’s makin’ innuendos about Thos’ “big box” and Blake was the one what was openly asking fer the hazing. But, NOoooooo, all you sees is me beautimus booty. I gots half a mind to build ya both boxes and send ya a signed photocopy of the original.
:p

All in fun, Pappy. The first time I read your posts I knew a). You have a first rate mind and b). you were a character to be reckoned with. A perfect fit for LJ. (in my mind’s ear you talk like Popeye the Sailor – ”That’s all I can stands, I can stands no more.”)

Well that explains why the grandkids keep givin’ me spinach fer birthdays and christmas, Doug! If only I didn’t pull something every time I tried to flex a muscle I’d say it was worth it. LOL Personally I always imagined my voice and diction to be a bit more like Bing Crosby’s after a hot buttered rum, but YaYa tells me it’s all in me head. I suppose croaking like a bullfrog with a lisp is a suitable interpretation.
Glad you think I’m a fit here, ‘cause I’m loving LJ and everyone here. You’ll be “reckoning with me character” (the good and the bad) for a long time to come :P
So, back on topic, I’m thinking those really big hats like Fred Flintstone got to wear at his Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes (Lodge No. 26) would be in order. Don, of course, gets the Grand Poobah variety with shiny buttons. Some marketing nub at Home Repo needs to recognize their “big orange box” nickname, embrace it, then make a play on it to become the Boxhounds’ official sponsor. Not sure how I’d feel about wearing a giant neon orange fuzzy hat my next trip into the hardware store, now that I come to think about it.
Just imagine…

Thanks Pappy for one of the biggest horse laughs of the year. Someone has to be the life of the party, and you are it!
LJs surely are a glorious group of multimedia types, the likes of which is seen no where else in WW forum land. Like Deb has said recently in another context, Power to the People!
BTW, I love Dennis’ comment on Don’s proposed nickname, which is right on target.
