I recently cut down a white oak tree that is 34inches in diameter and about 20 foot long close to that diameter. I have purchased a Granberg 36 inch Alaskan mill, and am going to purchase a Stink 660 chain saw. Does anybody have any advise on the best cuts to make the maximum use out of the tree? So, I am looking for a router table/shaper. I have no idea what to buy! I am only a every now and then, when I have extra time woodworker. I want quality, so I am not frustrated with the cheap ones, but I do not want the professional woodworker quality. I do not think that I am talented enough to make my own. It’s not enough to buy some great new tools, enough to buy lots of sandpaper, woodstock, knife blanks, etc. The most important thing is that I do not waste it on “stuff” that...

Bandsaw Troubleshooting Help! - 4 replies
Ok, so I went the REALLY cheap route and found an old bandsaw that belonged to my grandpa, but did not cut without the band coming off the rollers. I spent a couple of days figuring out how it worked, had to re-cut the plastic guides, make a couple of parts that were missing, but I FINALLY got it to cut without the blade jumping off track. Now t...

Ok, so I am building my tool collection and do not have a band saw. There are a few projects that I have seen some lumberjocks have made some awesome things with a band saw. I see them for sale on Craigs List for a decent price. Can anyone here tell me if this is a wise investment for a couple hundred dollars, or if I should pass? What kind and ...

Calculating the weight of a tree. - 1 reply
Does anyone know an easy formula for calculating the weight of a tree? I would like to cut down an old oak tree (struck by lightning) and have it cut up to make some furniture out of. I found a band saw mill to do the work, now I just need to figure out what size truck/trailer combination I need to haul the tree to the mill. Any help would be gr...
