I made these for my grand daughter when she comes over to visit. The blocks are hard maple and the box is fir. I used finger joint on the corners of the box, I am not sure if it will show in the pictures. I did not put a finish on them as she still puts everything in her mouth.

These are the last of my Christmas projects, I am done for Christmas. I made more than pictured, I had to get the others done and in the mail, did everyone get theirs, be patient.

The card board box was my inspiration for the tea boxes. One is Brazilian cherry, maple and walnut top another is oak and one walnut with a hickory top. Others that where already sent where cherry and combinations of the above woods. These woods match the bread boards and wine tray gifts already posted so the receiver has matching sets.

Now its time to clean the shop it is a mess.

Have you ever been at a tasting and glass in one hand and tray of goodies in the other and no place to put either down to enjoy one or the other. Saw some of these made of plastic and stole the idea. Woods are cherry, coca-bola, maple, walnut and hickory.

The wood is walnut, hickory and the inside tray is maple. I like the way the walnut and hickory blend together. I have a couple more in the works along with other small projects. I have tried for awhile to complete a box and always had some difficulty and have kept some of the pieces thinking I will fix them someday This site has taught me a lot, I have learn from many different post and from comments people have made on different post even the comments have opened a different way of approaching a project. I want to say thanks to everyone posting and commenting.

I just made a jig for the table saw for finger joints. Part of the fun of wood working has been making functional jigs and breaking down the wood to what I want. I still have a little trouble with hinges and the lid closing completely it wants to stay open about a 1/16 of an inch. This was made for the tea packages we have in the house. I will make more for Christmas presents and get ahead of the game. Christmas is right around the corner, 5 months, so two weekends out of the month leaves 20 days to build projects.

When standing for prolonged period she likes to have one foot up to relieve her back. This is made of maple and padouk. It was an attempt to mortise through the top and place a wedge in the top of the stool legs and center support. I need practice and different tools for the mortise and glad for wood fillers. She likes it and uses it daily, it was fun and I learn with every project.

Never new back then how popular they would become.
