Learning about whittlin' from the BSA

This past weekend, i was overjoyed to be able to attend the BSA'S University of Scouting, in NY. One of the classes I chose to take is something that just seemed to fit my personality, Whittlin' Wood- Don't Cut Corners given by a good friend, and fellow council member from my pack. It was a great course on how to teach the skill to scouts, safety, and general information on how to perform as an instructor. I very much enjoyed taking the class, as I have never tried my hand at whittling, and thought it was an interesting subject, seeing as I love working with wood.

Now I have a desire to buy a few basic whittling tools, and some blocks of wood so i can try my hand at this skill. As I go along, if this continues to interest me, i will post updates on my progress, any tips i come across that may help you, and some pictures of what i create, if anyone is interested in seeing some novice works….
