« Part 2: The solution to keeping cost low (in my situation) Part 3 of Heavy Woodworkers Bench series no next part

It’s a hectic world out there. That statement says a lot as of late, work, family, home repairs, remodels, obligations, appointments, meetings…. it goes on and on every single day in many of our lives. For thoes of us who love woodworking, but have other professions, where do we find time to do what we love? It’s difficult to, isn’t it?

In my situation, commercial truck driver by proffesion, keeps me from home 5 days a week, day an night. When I am home, i have family, a house to care for, and i volunteer as an Assistant Scoutmaster, Den Leader, and councilman for my son’s Cub scout troop. So, i add in meetings, events, leader training, camp etc to the mix. It really is a lot.

As of late i have had absolutely no time to work in my 2 car garage size shop at home building my much desired new woodworking bench i have started. Yes the top is nearly assembled now, and i have had time to make the dovetail joints for the legs to attach, but i have not gotten back out there to work on this bench it what seems ages. I know, everyone says “you just have to make time”, an i always respond “do you know the recipe?, I can make extra for you, if you give it to me” OK, i am being cute with that responce, but we all need a laugh. Luckily I am looking forward to spring. The weather warming up will allow me the comfort to go out and work in the shop, or as I need to do, my spring clean-up list. I hope in the comming weeks to “make” time to keep working on my bench, but i also don’t want to rush the build. This is a bench, i hope will outlast me, and can be enjoyed by one of my sons, while they spend hours shaping and sanding their son’s pinewood derby cars. (Our favorite time of year as scouts)

SIDE NOTE:
If any of you are interested in seeing the process my son and I take building pinewood derby cars, let me know. I may even be building a new track for our pack this comming year. If i get a few people who are interested, i will take photos, and/or video of the track and car builds to share.

I will post another entry after I get back to the bench build, i promise. And i will get photos of my progress for you.
