Picnic Time!

I've been thinking about this for quite a while, and was waiting for the right moment to get this going. After talking about it with several of you MA residents, and getting a good vibe from you guys. I think it's time we make it official:

Lumberjocks of New England Picnic Day

Aiming date - 2nd weekend of Sept - when the weather is a bit less humid, and more convenient. based on weather - this might be changed to 3rd weekend if needed.

Location - Since I'm bringing this up - the event can be held at my place - we have a large grassy patch, next to the garage/workshop. I'm conveniently located in Winchester, right off of 93/128 intersection, near route 3A, and Fellsway. It's a central location in East MA near Boston which might be convenient also for NH, VT, ME, and also CT, and RI peeps to get to - but with that in mind - any other offer, or suggestion for a different location is also welcome.

The Plan - Fun time !
Getting together face to face with all the other Avatars, BBQ, Bring your kids - Bring your better half, Bring your worst half - it's all fair and square, and the more the merrier.

Everyone is welcome to bring any woodworking related items they wish to share, or introduce to everyone else

If anyone has access to 'free' materials/tools/ideas - feel free to bring a bunch and spread it around - I already can account for Masonite sheets (40"x48") and Granite Slabs (for sharpening purposes, etc)... I'll try to come up with others if I can…. but you get the idea.

If anyone can think/get a sponsor to help out - GREAT! (whether it be sponsoring a location, or t-shirts, or key holders, or magnets… you get the drift)

If anyone thinks they can run a short class on a certain technique or the likes- that could be another fun activity to go through…

any ideas - feel free to bring to the table.

I know your names, and I know where you live - dont make me come over and get you :)

Peace, and have a great weekend.

Sign your name here if you plan on attending. Hope to see you there.

Sounds like a great idea. I've been to three different LJ picnics and they are great.

We'll try to get the one at lower eastern shore Lee Jesbergers Shop set up soon.

I live in Wakefield, work in Billerica, and I am a member of the lexington arts and crafts society woodworkers guild and ART.

I could probably host it at the Guild's huge woodworking shop as kind of an open house. Gotta run it by the board.

BTW we will be having the woodworkers gallery show starting on Fathers day and going through July 5th.

I know of 2 other local jocks. Skozub and Jon3

Thanks Lev…..I'm going to try to see you on my next trip to Tewksbury if the invite still stands .

great response! hope to see all of you there. Dusty - offer still stands, as always - just give me a heads up when you'll be coming around.

I figured this will be more of a get together, and getting a chance to see everyone face to face - more than a woodworking event - hence the bring kids and others - but it's up to each and everyone to do what works best for you guys. I have my 2 y/o here :)

The guild might be a good idea as well - I'll PM you tpastore to see what's there and what we can do - not sure if there are any limitations as far as food-drinks..etc if we do decide on the guild?

pictures will definitely be taken - like it or not - so dress up and look pruudy ;)

Curt - come on … it's just a little drive… no big deal right?

Ok , my friend ….....as far as I know right now , my next trip will be at the end of June…Wedding on Saturday the 27th….I might be able to be in your area on either the 26th or 28th . Let me know if either day works for you.

Rich - definitely planing to have more of those… so hopefully the next one around you can make it.

Barry, there are people coming in from West MA, and hopefully Maine, so Central CT is considered a definite doable! :)

Jon - that is great!

Hey, great idea. I'm in Simsbury Ct, not too far away. Its going to be tough, I have a lot of family birthdays in September and also another little one on the way. Do you have the exact date yet? If you do, I'll be able to fill out the proper request forms so that the "War department" might approve my travel. However the department will be 8.5 months pregnant at that point so the earlier I get the request in the better.

One thought is that maybe it would be a good time to do a small tool swap. If anyone has motors, old saws, even wood, it might be a good idea to bring them along. One persons junk is another treasure.

Tom. would be nice to have you coming! and that's a great idea to have a small tool swap. I think it's a good opportunity for everyone to share some of the old, and get some of the new. I'll see if I can setup some sort of a list for people to populate in an upcoming post in this thread.
