I joined this forum last year and it amazes me how much talent everyone here has. Last year, i was hoping to get more into woodworking (I have done some cabinetry and some end tables a few years back). My main experience is with rough and finished carpentry, electrical, plumbing, A/C and Heating…although right now, I am a software engineer as a profession (previous professions were as a Registered Land Surveyor and Professional Engineer). Life never goes as planned and last year we came into some money and we put a 600 S.F. addition on the house. We hired a cousin who owns a remodeling company to put up the shell, roof and side it. I’m in the process of finishing the rest and am at the point where i need to build a mantle and some side cabinets. Here is a before picture.

About 4 years ago, I started upgrading all my equipment via craigslist…here is the mess that is currently my shop in the garage.

Instead of just jumping into the project, I have been thinking of a ‘tune up’ project first. A while ago, I purchased an Incra System, router and router lift and inset it into my table saw. The problem with this is that it caused me to move the saw and outfeed table to the left and my wife got distracted and clipped the table saw rail pulling into the garage last year. So, I am thinking of building a rolling router table cabinet. Here is my existing setup.

The top will be laminate over MDF and originally the bottom would be plywood, but I found all this rough wood on Craigslist (for $150). So I think a little raised panel cabinet is in project is in order.

There was a bunch of this kind of insect damaged red oak in the lot that isn’t suitable for furniture/cabinets but think will make an interesting router cabinet.

I’ll post some pics as I work my way through this and am eager to hear everyone’s suggestions/comments.
