How to glue up a Maloof seat? - 3 replies
Jalen is gluing up the seat on his Maloof chair but when we clamped the prototype it created gaps as we clamped the sides with the 3 degree angle on sides of the boards. We clamped it to the workbench and fixed most of it but it seems there may be a better way. Charles Brooks talks about a clamping jig he uses but I can’t find any details...

This is a follow up to my Steambending Fail! Post a few weeks ago. I got a lot of great advise and I think I tried most of it. First of all I was out of air-dried wood so I had to switch to kiln dried. First we added to the form to make the inside curve less sharp. We resawed and planed four strips to 1/8 inch. I was trying to steam bend for the first time. I am using ½” air-dried walnut 5” wide. I left it in the steam box for about 45 minutes from the time it reached 212 degrees. I was bending around a form but no backer strap. I am thinking that a backer strap would help the delamination on the outside but I don’t know why the inside is all crinkled ...
