I was told about the site by Kent Shepherd and decided to give the site a look, initially to see some of his projects. I've been lurking and looking at shops and projects for the past few days and decided to join the fray.
I am primarilly a woodturner and have recently completed my term as president of the South plains Woodturners in Lubbock, Texas. I have been making bagpipes for the last 13 years and for about 6 years made a living at it. With two daughters vs too much road time I decided to move the bagpipes into a part-time venture concentrating on my own designs and trending away from the ordinary. In 2008 a set of my Highland bagpipes in Tulipwood and Water Buffalo were in the AAW juried show Turned for Use II. In 2009 I was a demonstrator at the AAW symposium in Albuquerque, NM - Bagpipes / Gundrilling and Thread Chasing.
I have recently been amassing tools for som "Flat Work" and have a few projects I am currently working on and using my new tools on. Of course between finishing graduate school and working two jobs and raising two girls time is pretty scarce for the next few months.
I am currently a Registered Nurse/Nursing Instructor at South plains College in Levelland, Texas and still work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. and finishing my Masters in Nursing at Lubbock Christian University.

Those are some beautiful and unique pipes. I took up the pipes about 10 months ago and would love to learn how to turn them some day. Do you play? How do your pipes sound with the unique shapes you give them?

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself almost a year ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…
Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…
