I was fortunate enough to catch a few deals on tools that I have been wanting. I was doing a CL search for a jointer and was almost sold on a Jet 6” jointer for $450, with a minimum amount of $400. The same night i looked a bit further distance away (75mi) and found a 6” Powermatic 54A for $500. No blades, no mobile base, No accessories. I picked it up early the next morning. The was a 20”Jet planer for $1200 and a Grizzly 15” for 800, but they weren’t budging (bUT offered a payment plan ) . They helped load it. However, It leaned over in the truck along the way , so I’ll have to ensure all is well before running it. It was missing the two bolts on the right side and the blades are dull. The Wood Whisperer has a nice video on setting up a jointer so I will follow that to get this one going.
The Cutech 13” 40600H-CT planer was a question mark. Not many reviews relevant to this model were found. I was able to get a $50 reduction and $350 was the final cost. It came with a nice sturdy mobile base, a Wixey digital height readout guage already installed , and nine new cutter heads. I opted for this due to the ease of changing the 2-sided Tungsten cutter heads. It has a spiral cutterhead, but with helical – like properties .
The Ridgid EB44242 sander came new and never used for $138. It was missing a $6 knob. It came from a warehouse selling goods on ebay, but also posted ads on CL. There were others like this as low as $89, but mine needed the fewest parts. I assume they purchase these items form HD after they have been returned. They find the defect and advertise the item
All tools were checking under power and performed well. I look forward to becoming familiar with them all because I have not owned any of them before.
