« Part 2: Drawer Boxes and Drawer Section Part 3 of Making a Desk series no next part

This was truly the most enjoyable part. I chose a combination of water based dyes to color the wood. I believe it was a mixture of General finishes Georgian cherry and Amber. I also used Amber shellac to finish it with. I’ll say this, the dye is very splashy! Did spots were everywhere and you just have to take your time because the dye will puddle up quickly and it won’t look good. I used every bit of the mix to treat the entire desk, drawers, and all!

But wait! There’s more!!

I made a trash can from some of the scraps!

Great job Jerome! Just be careful about drinking anything alcohol at that desk as it will leave a ring in the shellac surface if there is alcohol on the outside of the container.

Looks great. I’ve never tried dye, but I’ve heard it’s a world apart from stain.
