Wood Stool

This is my first blog entry!

I had some left-over scraps of some really nice wood. So I made a wood stool. The base of the stool is made of metal. I found it in the yard. It was white and rusty but a coat of paint brought it back.

As for the wood, I’m not sure about one of them.
In the video, I say it has mahogany. If any of you have a better idea of what that wood is, please let me know! I want more of it. It was from a scrap pile that someone gave me so I wasn’t sure. But I am sure about the other woods.

To make it I glued all of the pieces together into a square. Then I took a plate and made a circle. I used a miter saw to make many cuts along the line. It took about 20-25 cuts to get it close to a circle.

Then I had to smooth it out. As you see in the video, I had to make a simple lathe. It’s more like a tuning platform, but it worked really well with rough sandpaper. Eventually I got the stool really smooth.

Then a little wipe on poly and I was done.
I have to say, the piece of purpleheart has such a vivid color. It really pops.
