Welcome to LumberJocks. Where are you at in Maryland. On the Delmar Peninsula or over on the mainland.

Last year i built a wood working shop to get out of the garage, because of the dust. It’s only about 300 sq. ft. I have been bulding play stations and wood toy’s for my grandkids.

Well if you get a chance and are up for a drive sometime. I’m about 50 miles from the Bay Bridge. Our woodworking club The Mason-Dixon Woodworkers Club make toys for Christmas. We’ve made over 1000 toys each year for the past 12 years. We give them to charities for them to distribute. And we seem to get additional charities that keep asking to join.

We work each Wed in a shop of a guy who started making toys. he passed away 2 years ago but his wife still allows us to use his shop. We get donated lumber, $ donations, etc. One of our members has relatives who work for a kitchen cabinet factory in PA. and we get a lot of defective cherry and maple doors that were made and stained and then were returned . They plane them smooth to 5/8 or 1/2” and we use them to make a lot of cherry toys.

Bob: I made a pulpit for a sawmill owner. It’s in one of my projects. and I traded lumber for the pulpit. Some of the wood that I got was 6 boards that total 85 BdFt of cherry 2 boards 19” wide 12’ long and 4 boards 16” wide by 14’ along with some 2 – 2 1/2 thick by 10”wide about 8’ long. I also got some popular and some Holly in the trade.

I’m making a bed for his daughter now. Out of white pine 2” thick. He’s going to paint it. don’t need a lot of wood if you look at my workshop pictures.
