Didn’t accomplish a whole lot today. I’m downsizing, and adapting for a different purpose, a box pictured in a well-known book.
Click on pic for larger view.
Made a simple circle jig to use on the bandsaw out of nail through a board. Drilled a small hole to accomadate the nail in the center of my piece and cut the circle. Quartered the circle for the coopered lid ends. Bought a 1/4” flute and a 1/4” beading bit (horizontal winged) yesterday to machine the 1/4” thick walnut slats to mesh with each other around the curve (like canoe slats). Home made jig (pictured in the book) to hold the ends and rubber bands to hold the slats tight while the glue dries.
Figured out I didn’t make enough slats to make the whole lid. Going to have to make those before moving on to the other half.

Worked on the other half of the coopered lid last night. Looks pretty much like the first half, so no more pics yet.
Cut some through dovetails last night by hand as well. Pretty loose :( – out of practice – let’s see, when was the last time – years? (another reason for no pics)
Planning on some half-blind dovetails in another area of my box. Those have always been tougher for me. Deep breath and concentration – the box competition bar is so very high!
