Anyone seen or heard from Cabinetmaster(Jerry)? - 2 replies

Has anyone on the site heard from cabinetmaster aka. Jerry? Over a year ago I sent him a vacuum chuck I was selling. He really wanted it but was out of work. I sent it to him anyway and told him to pay me when he got work. Like I said, that was over a year ago. Actually, is was 462 days ago. I know, I know. I just thought someone on...

Free speech? - 17 replies

I read this and at first thought “how stupid.” Then I thought about it. Does this mean that I can sue Martin if he edits or deletes an offensive post by me? I guess we can say/do most anything nowadays and it’s covered under ‘free speech.’ And here I was always taught to respect our law enforcement officers. ...

How many of us ride motorcycles? - 93 replies

Just a light note to end a rather dull Sunday. How many of us (Lumberjocks) ride a motorcycle? I’ll start. I ride a 2009 Harley Softail Deluxe. Before that it was a Harley Road King, and before that was a Harley Sportster. :)

Wood available, central/northern Connecticut/South Mass. - 3 replies

My neighbor is cutting down some massive red oak trees. So far 7 have come down. The wood is FREE. It is cut up into anywhere from 4 to 10 foot sections, ranges from 2 foot round to 5/6 foot round or more. All branches already removed. Most of it is stacked by the curb. Plymouth Lane, Manchester, CT. It’s a dead end street so you ...

New PC Scroll Saw, thank you Abbott! - 1 reply

I really wanted a scroll saw for doing scroll work but also to cut the barrels on more fragile pens like some of the Laserlinez creations. As Abbott so generously shared, you can always print out a 20% off one item coupon from Harbor Freight, so I did and headed off to my local HF. I went and look at their scroll saw ($79.99) and they only h...

Not getting emails - 11 replies

I checked my account and I am supposed to receive emails when someone sends me a private message, one of my friends posts something or when someone responds to a forum topic I posted. But for the last few days I have been getting zero emails. Zip. Nada. And I even took a shower! :) I don’t know if anyone else is experiencing this or...

Jointer vs. Drum Sander - 11 replies

I am in the market for either a nice drum sander or a nice 8” jointer. I am looking at the Grizzly G0593 with the spiral cutterhead. Can a drum sander be used as a jointer? Or do you still need to establish a flat edge for the sander to work effectively? Thanks.

How do they do it? - 6 replies

Couldn’t sleep last night so I came on LJ’s for a little while and used the “Pulse” button for one of the first times. I noticed that a bunch of new people had signed up, and that a bunch of LJ’s had welcomed them already. Then I noticed it was always the same jocks who welcomed them. Getting interested, I notice...

Average time of 'action' during professional games - 7 replies

This is kind of random, and doesn’t have much to do with woodworking unless you consider the hockey sticks and baseball bats are made of wood and some of our members make them! :) I was sitting in the doctor’s office yesterday waiting for my Mother. I picked up an ESPN magazine and read a little blurb about how long the ball/puck...
