Curly makore box

Finally done this little box. It’s the first nice box I’ve made since I mostly seem to make bigger stuff. It was a lot of freaking work since I found out I’m allergic to Makore !! I’ve never sneezed so much in my life !! Never again, my shop is now a “No Makore Zone”. The finishing took awhile since the inside was prefinished 1st before it was put together. Panels are maple veneer with a bit of curl also. Little ebony squares are only about 1/8” thick and sanded flush.
Could not have made it without the wixey digital gauge, how else would you get a 44.1 deg compound cut on the tablesaw ?? It paid for it self on this job for sure, I’d still be trying to fine tune the joint but I nailed it the first time once setup properly.
I’ve owned the wood for awhile and it finally found a home in this project. I want to thank whoever designed it, I’ve had a picture of it in my computer for a bit but have no idea who the made the original one.

Finishing as follows
tung oil sealer 2 coats,
4 coats shellac,
2 coats grain filler,
sand @ 400
6 more coats of shellac
wet sand to 600-1000
wax.

It actually has quite a bit of gloss but the pictures are a bit lame. The curl is pretty spectacular.

Hope you like it.

corner table

A flame birch top that is rubbed out to a gloss with a maple expresso dyed bottom frame. I wish the pictures showed the depth and curl of the top it’s quite an eye catcher and appears almost liquid and alive. This is the first time I ever rubbed out to a gloss. Not my normal “cup of tea” but I’m very happy with it.

A couple recent projects

I’ve posted these on other forums but thought I’d share with fellow jocks also, hope you like them.
Cherry with 1 coat of BLO, 2-3 coats of blonde shellac, 2-3 coats of spray Target USL satin (my normal cherry finish). Sorry about the picture quality, I’m a pretty good WW I think but my photography skills are questionable. The mirror has a few months of catching up to the table to get the colour to match.
