Potential solution for end vise wracking

While working on my current project of a TV Credenza, I had the need to clamp for the planing of molding on the front edge of my bench. As mentioned by many others on this site, my end vise was wracking, and I tried the usual solutions – wedge, spare pieces of wood, shims, etc., but found these to be somewhat of a pain in the neck. Thinking about it, I decided to use the far runner in some form of clamping procedure. I went to Lowe’s, secured a 7/8” dowel (the diameter of my vise guide pipe ), and a 3/4” copper pipe clamp: I decided on a dowel to prevent any possible marring the metal unit, and used the 3/4” copper clamp because copper (tube) is mea...
