I just stared woodworking. I did trim work during
college to help pay the bills and always enjoyed
working with wood. It's been a dream of mine
since to have time and a few tools to play
around and build things.

I figure I will start out small
And go from there.

I agree with looking into used tools.
A Jointer is a very simple tool. Easy to get an older one cheap, and make it work perfect for you.
A Planer has more moving parts, and while you can fix them up. I have seen more of them get scrapped.
And that comment applies to the 12 or 13” lunchbox planer. Seems they are a little disposable.
Here are a couple craigslist ads in you general area. Just pulled them at random. Look into your area, may very well find more or better.
