Bowed Glue Up - 3 replies

Hi All, Question: I made a box of Poplar about 2 weeks ago, but I never got around to putting a finish on it. I left for a business trip earlier this week and the box was fine; however, I just got back and found the lid quite bowed. After reading up on what could have gone wrong, I found that I may have over tightened the clamps. I also pr...

New to Shellac: Spray vs Brush - 53 replies

Hi guys, I’ve been doing a ton of research on finish, reading various books as well as LJ and SawMill threads. I just finished a really nice Poplar Tea Box, and would really like to nail the finish. I am going to use CN Blotch Control and GF Water Based Antique Cherry, with a Shellac Finish. I know I’m going to have to do a ton...

Pine is very Orangy/Yellow from Watco Golden Oak - 2 replies

Folks, I have a shelving unit made of pine that I just finished with two coats of Watco Golden Oak. However, the color is a somewhat unorthodox yellow/orange. Newbie Question on changing a plan - 7 replies

Hello All, this is my very first Lumberjocks posting! I’m building a small drawer from one of Danny Proulex’s books. Throughout the project, he calls for glue with 1 1/4 inch screws. Since there is glue involved, is there any reason why I can’t go with 16 gauge nails instead of screws ?
