Haven’t posted for quite some time and miss all of you guys. Great to see all of the new posters! Been out of the shop for a year or so and am working on some humidors that are coming along rather nicely, if I do say so myself. Was thinking of trying my hand at some carving but am at a loss as to what to buy as far as carving tools. Wha...

Two years.......ALREADY????? - 5 replies
Well it seems that while I wasn’t looking time passed and it is over two years since I have joined Lumberjocks. Two years….you got to be kidding me! I monitor the site frequently but have not been active lately. My shop is dark and messy because I have no inspiration at the present time. It has been rewarding seeing my fellow lum...

Wood Gloat!!! - 15 replies
I had some lumber given to me. What I got was approx. 175 bf of 4/4 curly Maple. The narrowest piece is 5 1/2” and the widest is 10 1/2”. All pieces are 8’-0” long. These are some of the wider pieces from the bottom of the load. I wet one of the pieces down with alcohol to see the grain pop! No...

I was visiting the Woodworking in America site http://www.woodworkinginamerica.com/GeneralMenu and wondered if any of the Lumberjocks ever attended? How about a review? Was it worth the registration fee?

Lumberjock ladies - 32 replies
While viewing a posting about multiple postings a fellow Lumberjock wrote that the men on Lumberjocks cause more problems than the ladies. No doubt that’s true but it got me to thinking “What are our Lumberjock sisters working on?” Ladies, now is the time to show your Lumberjock brothers what type of projects the ladies are m...

Card trick - 1 reply
Boy is this off the mark for woodworking! Someone posted a nonsence item that I viewed yesterday but one of the replys was a YouTube video of the most amazing card trick. It was set to music and the main theme was that all opf the aces appeared in a row no matter how the dealer shuffled. I must show it to my wife but I’ll be darned if I...

Rockler - 6 replies
I got a gift card for Christmas to buy blades for my new Grizzly 14” bandsaw (106” blades) but unfortunately what I got was a $100 ROCKLER card. I want to get Timberwolf blades but Rockler doesn’t carry them, Woodcraft does. Does anyone have a w Woodcraft gift card they would be willing to trade for a Rockler gift card?

Motivation - 21 replies
Lumberjocks, It’s been a couple of months since I’ve made anything of consequence in my shop. It seems that I am just not motivated. It used to be that I would spend 2 or 3 hours a night and most of the weekend in the shop but lately I am lucky to spend a couple of hours a week. Television programs like The Woodwrights Shop and...

Delta belt/disc sander - 7 replies
Does anyone have a Delta 31-695 combination 6” x 48” belt / 9” disc sander they can give a review on? They are discontinued but can still be gotten reasonably priced. For that matter…..anyone have a similar type sander they can recommend? The wish list is for a Jet 708595 but the price is more than I want to spend.

Belt / Disc Sander - 13 replies
Ok Lumberjocks, I never thought I would have a use for a benchtop Belt / disk sander but after attending a Shaker box workshop it appears I do! What are you using? Any features to look for? The only one I’ve looked at is the Ryobi BD4600 for $114 at the orange big box. Can’t say I was impressed.

Planer stand - 5 replies
I recently replaced my Ryobi 10” planer with a Delta 12 1/2” planer. I was able to lift my old 10” planer and put it on the extension table for the table saw when I wanted to use it. This will not be possible with the 12 1/2” as it weighs 80 lbs.! Has anyone built a semi-portable stand to secure a planer to? Any ideas ...

Quite simply, The orange big box has it’s tool sale going on on offers the Dewalt 12 1/2” planer or Ryobi 13” planer for the same price $399 less sale discounts. Which is better? For years I have had a 10” Ryobi and am moderately pleased with it.

Futon - 2 replies
The wife purchased a new futon mattress and now it seem that the old frame just won’t do. The one we will replace had a metal mechanism and was bought 9 years ago. The new ones in the store seem to be all wood with a routed groove in the ends for a pin to ride in. Surelt there must be a set of plans that would help with a layout such as...

Biscuits - 7 replies
Well Lumberjocks…..It appears as though my biscuits have swelled! Sounds painful but I can assure it is only annoying. I guess the plastic bag I had them stored in wasn’t good enough. I read somewhere that you can put them in a microwave to dry them out. Has anyone tried that, or have a better idea? How do you store yours?
