Progress being made on my clock project – Ironic that I’m having to continue my learning of patience on a project to make a time measurement piece. Check out my progress here to read about my exploits as I reflect and continue this project.

Here are also some additional pictures I decided to not include in the blog.

Rear side of the face & frame assembly. There’s a gap between the face and the lower rail of the frame to allow the pendulum to swing freely.

Note that I have taken wood movement into account. Take a close look at the top rail.

I’ve oriented the rail so that the grain patter matches that of the face. They are also from the same board, so I hope I’ve done it right! Thoughts?

Another view of the glue up.

Couldn’t really tell what the grain directions were because the pictures are so small. They look well finished though. I assume you mean that the grain runs in the same direction as the wood it’s attached to.

BTW, are you updating another post at LJ about this project or is this the first one?

@ a1Jim – Thanks
@OutPutter Jim :) Sorry, I’ve gone ahead and updated the pics to link to the bigger view. I found that putting the full size pic in the post cut it off at the right side lessening the appeal.

My Skills building series touch on the clock, but I also am blogging about it on my personal blog to expand my creative writing skills in the hope that it will flow over to my creative woodworker side.

Thanks Martyn. I’ve discovered that wood can hold interesting surprises as you work with them. I’ll be using that as my next blog post :-)
