Location: Loganville, Georgia

Software Engineer working as a military contractor in Afghanistan. Love to do woodworking and as I travel the world I bring back wood from various countries and make items out of them. Even though I can purchase most of the wood locally, it is still a great conversation piece to say that this or that item is made from Willow from Balad, Iraq. Most of the time when home unless there is a large project to do, I will turn pens and then take them back with me to SW Asia and give them as gifts to folks that I meet.

My wife and I also like to travel and ride our motorcycles and always while out I have my eye out for interesting wood to lug home. Recently while on a trip to Italy, we were in Sorento and they are known for their wood inlays. I got to talking with a shop owner and indicated that I was interested in buying some Olive wood to take home. He sent me with his granddaughter down the street to a hole in the wall place and the guy there produced a chunk of highly figured 8/4 Olive wood that was about 10 x 20. I was thinking this is going to cost a fortune but I asked him and he said yes, that piece would run me $7 US.

One of these days I will be at home permanently and you will find me in the shop making dust and lots of it.

Hello Neil

Still have the Pachyderm Puzzle pdf?
I used to have the subscription when that came out. Made a few of those myself.
