I was absolutely overwhelmed by the positive response to my Zig Zag How To blog post yesterday, that I decided to brainstorm some possible combinations (on my lunch break) using the basic steps I outlined yesterday. All of the same techniques and steps apply, and really the only difference is the woods and measurements that make up the original “sticks.” Same rules apply to width = height. Length is up to you.

For those of you who asked me for a tutorial on how to make the zig zag legless vegetable death table (cutting board), here is my best shot. I’m sure others have posted a project similar to this, so I’ll be brief on the description.
This is just another great, simple way to get some use from those cut-off strips that accumulate in the shop. I start by gluing up several pieces side to side, first making sure that the sides are square and parrallel for a good lamination. I make each layer just over the sized of the width of what I want for the coasters’ width.

I had some requests on a tutorial of how I put together the end grain butcher block top for the island Jay and I recently built (Once the base gets the final coat of paint to match the kitchen cabinets one of us will post that as a project but here are a few pictures of it almost done)

Hello all. Well I seem to have whet the appetite a bit so here goes for a ‘novel’ technique for making mitred boxes. Its a bit like making a box out of paper, like they showed you at school, using a ‘net’. Only in 3D, with wood and a tablesaw (not sissors).

This is a new style of cutting board (at least new to me). I was thinking about 3D designs on the way home from work last week, after Martyn’s Blog and Steve’s Video. So I came up with this. Kind of Sinister, kind of Tumbling block. Once I drew it out, it reminded me of Staggered Stairs (which are kind of cool), and reminded Karen of the Steps on the Row Houses in Baltimore. With fair weather this week the boys finished the roof, and started putting soffit up so things are making some progress. In a couple of weeks my nephew is coming to help me wire the project. I’ve been working on a wiring plan so will be making a trip to Menards soon to get all of that. Hi guys ,, I had a request to make a tutorial with regards the endgrain Tumbling Block Design.First off,.., You need to decide the size of the blocks…. for this example I used 1” stock… Or something similar.. actually just over .. once dressed.
