« Part 7: Hospital Again Part 8 of Just Updates series Part 9: Finally Home »

Brothers, Sisters, Friends,

I am in the hospital, and that is why I have been dormant. Super Bowl Sunday was not just painful for the Broncos and their fans. I went to church hurting and had to leave half way through the service the pain was just to much to bear. I went home and took some heavy medication and started to feel better. I was feeling so much better that I decided to go to my outlaws for the Super Bowl party. Upon arrival I was super hungry smelling all the food my father-in-law cooked up. So I decided to eat about 6 chicken hot wings and a big slice of a super sub sandwich. A quarter of the way through the sandwich everything turned around and came back up and I could not stop! The pain came roaring back! So my wife took me to the ER and I was admitted within an couple of hours.

So far I have had a battery of tests and all they have found is some erosion in my stomach with a camera. They do not believe that is causing this level of pain and nausea. I am getting a nuclear tests this morning to check my gallbladder and liver. If those are negative then its on to a colonoscopy, if negative, then they are talking about an exploratory laporatomy or a surgery where they open my belly up and look around.

Before Sunday, I was getting ready to post this.

It is not finished yet! But I do know I want to leave the scalloped look! It proof it is had made:). The wood is Crab Apple that my mother and father planted before I was born! I have saved some of the limbs as my brother was pruning it up a few years ago. I resawed it right away and so it sat waiting, whispering to me!

My beautiful and awesome wife is letting my use my carving knives to carve while I sitting idle and hurting on the couch. Brother Shipwright (Paul) is so right! It really helps me focus off my pain. I am using a small set of knives that Mr. Paul Jones of http://deepwoodsventures.com/ as well as a small spoke shave from Mike and Karyn de Punte’ of http://capeforge.com/ . Both sent the tools to me back when I was in the hospital and being treated for my brain injury in the Army. (Let me say right here, both of these tool makers produce the finest carving tools I have ever held and carved with! I cannot wait to get my hands working with a fuller arsenal of their tools!) I wanted to include a photo of the knives and shave as they are so darn beautiful but alas I am stuck here, so you all will have to be patient along with me:). I want to get some small scorps and bent knives to assist in hollowing the spoons. But as all of you can testify and identify one bill at a time:).

Ok, I am getting tired. I am on dilaudid and phenergan but soon I cannot have any more pain control since it results of the test. Yeah, 12 hours cold turkey!

Its all good, I have been through worse…nothing even compares to the headaches!!

Good news is Theresa is improving in leaps and bounds! Thank you all for your prayers! Getting the diagnosis and proper meds has really turned things around. God is good! She still get tired, but man, is she even more beautiful than she has ever been!!

I will update you all again when I can. Please, PLEASE, do not be offended if I do not respond to comments or emails. I don’t have the energy I normally have. But PLEASE still comment if you feel lead, you have all lifted my spirit!

Your Friend,

Nate

Hi Nate, Thanks for the update, and of course, Godspeed as you travel this road. We have no guarantees, but you look too young to be enduring all these health issues. BTW, kudos re your work on the spoons. Very nice.

Hang in there. From what youʻre describing, I think you really need to find a specialist that has seen this condition before. Ever thought of writing to the http://www.thedoctorstv.com? Itʻs the DOCTORS show on ABC. Describe your history and they may hook you up with a really good specialist. Good luck

ratchet- Thank you very much

pop- yes I am to young! War does that unfortunately…War, Stress and Time. Thank you for your kind words!

tyvek- I definitely do not want to be part of a TV show! Not for me. I like being in the shadows. As for a specialist, I saw one yesterday. He is the one who did the test on my stomach and found the erosions. Now he wants these other two tests before a colonoscopy. Thank you though for your concern, I know you are coming from a very kind place and that it is heart felt. Seriously, Thank you!

David- you have a way with words!:) Thanks for the encouragement, and as for the spoon…It was not a screwdriver crazy:) Knives, carving knives. You underestimate yourself! You could do it. You have a great eye for creativity!

Nate,
Thank you for keeping us posted, we too are thankful that Theresa is feeling and doing so much better.
We are praying that your doctors figure out something to help you get this under control and on your way to recovery.
The mind is a powerful healer, keep carving and creating and let God handle the rest.
Lord when things are difficult, lead me to Your word and remind me, You are in controll.

Best Regards to you and your family. – Len

Our prayers are with you Nate, Hang in there, this too shall pass.
Great looking spoon, as soon as you heal up use it to stir up a batch of home made chili … or maybe stew.
