Perhaps I need to explain where the Nickname came from. In 1983, I got one of the five North Dakota elk tags given out that year. I shot the second legal elk in modern North Dakota history. My daughter named him "Elmer" and he hangs proudly in my living room.
I taught Industrial Arts for five years and then worked for Prison Industries in North Dakota (12 years), California (5 years), and Iowa (13 years). When I was in North Dakota, I had a custom cabinet business for 9 years besides working for the prison.
I retired two years ago and am in the process of working on a small shop in my 14 X 21 garage. We also sell antiques and collectables (mostly Paper) on Ebay. Check out our sight, "stockbridgestuff".
I am married and have a daughter in California and a step-daughter and step-son in this area.
I am an avid bow hunter and shot some dandy Pope and Young bucks since moving to Iowa.

Welcome to Lumber Jocks. I got off a train once in Burlington and hitchhiked to Salem to pick up my car. That was in the ‘60’s and I was rodeoing all over your country. Also once, on a family vacation we camped in the city park and got sprayed for mosquitos. I DO remember Burlington. LOL Have fun here it is a great place.

Hi Gene & Gregory

Thanks for the welcome! People seem to forget how many blessings they have. There was one time in my life when I lost a lot of money and material things. It brought me closer to God, my family and had my health. I am the richest man in the world! Those Grand-kids are priceless! Have a great Day!

Where in North Dakota? I ranched in western South Dakota for 23 years. I sure miss the hunting. I never had the chance to go Elk hunting, but I did get a .270 with that in mind. I put in for New Mexico this year, but didn’t draw.

Thank you for your warm welcome! Hmm, woodworking and archery hunting, you’re talking about things that I like. The LOML drew a special either sex Elk tag for the Elkhorns outside Helena MT last year. He spent a week up there during rifle season and got so disgusted with rifle hunting that he vowed never to hunt again until we get him his replacement bow (which is on hold for a few more years, or until we get the wood shop set up for year round woodworking). Here’s hoping to drawing the tags you want and getting the project that you are working on done.

Wish you all the best.

Thank you for the comments. The G0555 Grizzly bandsaw is a great saw. I’ve had mine now for about three years. I did not buy the riser block until about a year ago. After buying I wish I had went ahead and got from the beginning. I added a 24” x 24” table to mine to give me a larger work surface. If you go with the riser block go ahead and get the Carter tension spring for it. You will need it. I have cut just about everything you can cut with it. I splint 11” diameter logs for my father bowls. If you need some close up pictures of anything on it let me know, and I’ll send you a copy. Thanks again, and we’ll talk to you soon.

Tom, thanks for the comments,

Man your shop is really looking good, I wish I would have went with the cyclone.

My last shop was the same size as yours and it worked for 19 years. My wife and I produced some really large projects there. It is amazing what you can get accomplished once you put your mind to it.

Tom, Thanks for the welcome and you are correct, it is very addictive! Its also very good for your self esteem, loads of encouragement, what else can you ask for. I see you enjoy drywall work as much as I do from looking at you workshop photos, if you ever do anymore of that, try swapping the sandpaper for a damp tile sponge, no dust and very slick joints.

Hi Tom,
I’ve thought about that when I began to build. My corner base cabinet is dry fitted and screwed only. I’m going to do my finishing and final construction in my living room (I’m single, and have lots of room, and no one to challenge me) (Life is good)
I still have a long way to go though, but with the kind and talanted help and support from everyone on this forum, things should be absolutely a blast to do !

God bless you also Tom,

Thanks for the Welcome….......appreciated.
I like the Fire Truck…......Cool.
Made a wooden truck for my son out of scrap timber…..........turned out to be a major project with all the machine work that went into the suspension, steering, drop axles etc.
Cheers,
