I’ve had time, but no money.
I’ve had money, but no time.
I’ve had neither time NOR money.
But I’ve never had time AND money.
—
The sort of thing you do when you have TIME, but no money:
You MAKE your loose-leaf page lifters, instead of buying them.
So … who else has been in a position where they’ve got wood, time, and tools, but not a lot of money, and …. what did you build BECAUSE you were IN that situation ??

Neil after my accident, life changed a wee bit.
My wife became the breadwinner in the family.
I was lucky in whatever I made she thought was wonderful.
Money was tight as we had just bought a house.
My only outlet then was woodturning as I thought it was all I was capable of.
I set about the task of helping others get into woodwork. I organised demonstrators from all over to give demonstrations. Taught others to turn. Kept busy. Not once did Shirley ever complain.
I’m now back to making my living out of woodwork and extremely happy.
I wish I had known about LJ’s then. OK the internet was not really around then. :) The last two weeks with a broken finger have been rather annoying as I’ve orders, designs, LOTS of timber. So I’ve just been Dreaming/designing and moaning a lot.
I’ve also spent way too much time on LJ’s. LoL

Neil, I have the wood, the time since I am retired and the tools but my wife has all the money. :) Somehow she manages to spend both hers and mine. I have yet to figure out how to get my allowance from her.

Got to go write a blog, like an hour ago. I can show you some stuff that didn’t cost much money, but was built a long time ago, like my chain saw box (holds two saws…....heavy….....but needed to be tough). Or my cable modem/router/switch cabinet, built with scrap stuff, but boy is useful…..........but, have to write a blog or two, then maybe I can really answer you. My 40 year old workbench is in that category, all the way….....built when I was a resident (poor).

I’ve made wooden wheels for my riding lawn mower’s deck, twice :). They actually work pretty well. I hate mowing so much that it’s a grave insult to me to have to spend any money on our mowers. I also made a new deflector for the rear of our pushmower when the plastic one it came with got munched up, same reason. I’m with Scrappy; I think most of what I make is made out of cast-offs, and for practical reasons.

I don’t think I fit into this catagory, cause I’ve got all the time in the world, all the wood I need to work with, and more $ that I’ll ever spend…...So…..what can I say????? ‘Nuff said…..I’m covered!!!!!!!!!!!
