I am a Filipino artist and wood sculptor and installation artist who creates pieces that are graceful, often organic, and sometimes playful. With a background in Environmental Studies and Sculpture and years of working in theatrical stage production, my art furniture pieces are hailed from reclaimed and up-cycled old wood material.
In 2010, I started his own art and design company called Studio10.10 to focus on one of a kind furniture pieces, larger art projects and crafted interiors. My works have evolved through making various art installations, tables, chairs, light fixtures, wall mosaics, figurative sculptures, and more. By exploring and challenging myself with different objects, I balance my understanding of function and aesthetic value. What makes my pieces unique is my approach in treating every part of a furniture as a sculpture.
A lot of planning, research, and testing goes into every piece. In addition, much time is devoted to sanding and finishing the wood pieces. He focuses not only the front or side view of a piece but the overall look of a chair from different angle I focus not only the front or side view of a piece but the overall look of a chair in different angles making every line flow from underneath and three-quarter views. By paying close attention to the details of the headrest, the armrest, the seat component, every piece I make is a composite of multiple sculptures. I do my best to hone my skill with the reclaimed wood, pushing the limits of the material and maximizing its aesthetic quality. It is this balance of being both functional and sculptural, which allows one to have an intimate connection with the pieces.
