This classic box is for a friend’s son, when he turns 13. My next step is to spray on an amber shellac finish.

Thanks, Kerry!
I think his son will be very happy with this box and appreciate it more as he grows older. I’ve carved boxes for his other two kids for their 13th bd. Their dad knows how to make becoming a teen special!

That is some beautiful work. Makes me want to dig out my chip carving stuff and dust it off. Those are some very nice looking borders….and I really like the pattern. Making an inlayed chip carved box is one of the items on my wish to do list…..I just need to allocate some time to learning and practicing the cuts…
I’m sure the youngster will enjoy the gift….it is very special.

Marty,
Your work is spectacular! You WILL post it when it is finished? YES!? I dream of some day being able to carve like that (but I’m an old lady already and haven’t even begun learning). ;-(

This box and his brother’s are complete. All finish is sprayed using an airbrush. Two coats sanding sealer, amber shellac until desired color is uniform, two coats satin lacquer. I’ll mail them to the boy’s dad and he can hide them away until they turn 13.
