Raised garden bed from Cedar slabs I milled

These are some raised garden beds I made for the wife. Pretty simple design, there is (4) 8’x4’ boxes around a small octagon herb garden in the middle. It is all made of 8/4 cedar planks with one live edge for looks. It is nice to have a Woodmizer LT40 to cut my own slabs to do this kind of work. The pictures of us milling are some older pictures that I took when we were milling up some cedar fence boards.

Weekend wall shelf in figured maple

Hello there,

This is a project I made for my mother this past Christmas. It was one of the first projects that I completed where I processed the wood all the way from a standing tree to a finished product. I used my grandpa’s old hand planes that my mother gave me a few years ago. It adds a nice story to the finished product. I got the design from Thewoodwhisperer.com, super easy and nice looking shelf. I wish I would have taken more pictures though out the project, lessons learned. Let me know what you think.

It turned out better then I expected, but I can see how you would need to practice to get this skill down.

My New dust collector Setup

Hey guys,

I just wanted to post my project that I have been working on. I used a Harbor Freight dust collector motor and blower Mounted on the wall and an Onedia Super Duty Dust collector cyclone on top of garbage can. I piped the exhaust of the HF blower out the wall so that I do not need any filters. Then I used a Stanley 110v remote control to turn it on and off. I made the lid out of two layers of ½” plywood that fits down into the can and a ¾” sheet of MDF on top to seal around the edge of the can. I chamfered the edges of the plywood so that it slips into the can nicely. I added a little glass window so I can see when it’s full. It is very quiet and works very well. Let me know what you guys think.

Above the stove Pot Rack & Shelf

Hello,

This was a birthday present for my girlfriend; she really wanted a hanging pot rack. The design was in one of my old Woodsmith Shop Magazine. The frame is made of some very nice Pacific coast figured maple and the center grid is made of Cherry. All of the wood used in this project was from trees that were removed by the owner’s request. Milled up on my Woodmizer mill and dried in my solar kiln. Now that’s being green! Thanks for looking, I wish I had a better camera to show the figure in the maple but that will have to wait. Thanks for looking.

Hello,

This is a little project I just completed for my better half. She wanted to be able to stand up and type as she was entering information. It was made form some nice Cherry that I had milled and dried in my solar kiln. It’s nice to know that this used to be a tree no farther than a mile from my house. Now all of the girls in her office want a set of these simple boxes. Please let me know what you think.

21st century workbench

Well I have been looking forward to posting my first project up here and here it is. I made this out of Douglas fur that I milled myself with a woodmiser mill my neighbor has. I could not afford to build this out of ash so I made do with what I had available. I splurged on the vises with my tax return money so that I could finish the project off. This was my first major project that I have tackled, and let me tell you that this was a joy to build. I used the experience to use both hand tools and power tools, I did half of the bench with hand tools and the other with power tools. I still need to finish the boxes for the center, but I am waiting for a load of maple to dry in my solar kiln I built. If any of you have any questions about building one of these I will answer it to the best of my abilities. Thanks for looking.

Update: 9.26.11
I finished the center boxes for my bench; I recently dried a ton of figured maple in my solar kiln and decided to use this to make the boxes out of. I decided to put a walnut inlay just to accent the boxes. Let me know what you think.
