Mother of 3, grandma of 2.
I have always loved getting into wood. When I was 17-18 years old, I was working on a cassette box case for my truck. Cutting into plywood, as I was gliding the wood through, the speed/sucktion of the blade sucked in my fingers. Well, since then I have not been able to use disc type blade machines. I still fear the blade, so everything I cut is with a jig saw... as you know, this is not the type of tool you can use effectively on large projects. So, I buy old furniture or items ready to go to the dump and either fix them up or recreate the item into something else, ie. A desk into a pantry, a dresser into a cabinet, and of course I add my bits of art, weather it be regular paint, stain, designing with glass beads, painting pictures or carving/grinding images, etc.
In college I took almost every art class I was able too, while getting my degree in graphic design and typography. After a couple years of interviews and no job (stating I don’t have enough experience), ok, so I took my art (that I have done since grade school) and went forward in to something I love doing and still make no money at, but, I’m not wasting my time because I love what I can do. My husband, on the other hand, feels his wallet shrink to the width of a dollar bill... using money, not making it from my work.
I wish I had a smart person to sell my items.. that’s something I haven’t grasped ; where do you sell it? The cost of shipping? And who in thier right mind would pay for expensive shipping... I work with what’s on hand, and in my head.
