If you have any questions dont be afraid to ask! sorry im kind of in a hurry to type this, im supposed to be doing homework :P

My Custom Longboards

A quick taste of some of my longboards. These aren’t all of the boards i’ve made..i only take pictures when i feel like it haha ;-)

pic 1-for a friend, i faded it from white to purple, and put hexagon grip tape pieces on top, it looks amazing!

pic2/3- some of my boards. on the left is my trick deck/backup. on the right is my baby, i absolutely love this board. solid poplar, just a little flex, slight camber, perfect board for me. rides like a dream :)

pic 4-custom Live oak and mahogany trucks. they actually work really good, and they’re all wood, the only metal on it is the axle. i will definitely be experimenting with this ALOT more, they really cool, and i’m pretty sure i’m the first/only person to do this.

pic 5-one of my early boards, still ride it today :)

any questions/comments are welcome.

Hey guys, this is what i’ve been up to between track and homework.. hope you enjoy, and as always, comments/critiques are very welcome

2nd-3rd pic: camphor hollowform. the finish is 3-4 coats of tung oil, and 2 coats of paste wax. i like how it turned out alot, and this camphor is absolutely gorgeous! the dimensions are: 10.25”x4”, the opening is 3.875” (3 7/8”)

4th pic: X-Acto knife! i foud an old, messed up exacto knife, took off the main body, and replaced it with some beautiful rosewood scrap. i love this thing sososooo muchh!! :D i’ve wanted to do this forever lol

5th pic: here is a square marble-wood lidded bowl. the lid is made out of a bowling ball :) the hole on top is the thumb hole. i took the idea from a woodturning buddy haha ;) i really like the result and i think it looks pretty cool:)

Thanks for looking! Please critique, i know everything up here is far from perfect

Ohh! todays my one-year Lumberjocks anniversary!!! :D

Recent Turnings

This is what i’ve been up to, the first picture is a camphor-rosewood miniature hollowform 1 1/4×15/16” finished with thin superglue, micro meshed then scratch-X then some kind liquid of car wax (dont remember the name) i reallyyy like turning miniatures :D this hollowform is going to be given to my priest/guidance counselor, because he asked me how ornate of an object i could make. i hope he likes it :D

next is a small rosewood plate, currently finished with a couple coats of tung oil 8 3/4×1 1/4” beautiful grain!!

next is a slightly spalted sugar-maple fruit bowl, finished with a beeswax-oil mixture. it has a pretty bad crack, and i was thinking of stitching it up with leather, but i actually kinda like it so it’s gonna stay lol 11 3/4×5 1/4

the fifth picture is my second vase. it’s made of camphor, and when i was turning it, i must of turned it a little too thin, and a part of it broke out… so i “stitched” it up with some leather. 10 1/4×5 1/2”

lastly, my two favorites, a cherry four-legged plate, and a extra figured “bee tree” camphor hollowform (my third)
the plate has one coat of tung, while the hollowform has a coat of pentacryl on it, to help dry, as it was turned green.

all of the wood was free except the cherry, but the cherry was extremelyyy cheapp. the sugar maple came from wisconsin (i live in florida, and we had to take that piece home in luggage lol i got a couple of weird looks (; i also took home a 69 pound black locust crotch-wood log on that same plane, same day haha :D got all of that wood from a couple guys on craigslist who were cuttin down some trees.

Thanks for looking, and sorry if i bored you with my stories lol. Any comments/ critiques are extremely welcome, and please point out my mistakes too, it helps me learn.

I haven’t posted much in a while.. i’ve been really caught up in school work and cross country…

The first picture includes my first vase (top left), not my first hollow form, just my first vase. The opening at the top is wayy too big.. the wood is camphor, and is finished with tung oil. 10”x5” at it’s widest. the opening is 3.25”.

The second picture is a sapele platter. it is 12.25 and really thin. finished with multiple coats of tung oil and a coat of a beeswax-olive oil mixture.

Picture number three and four is a monkey pod bowl. 6.625”x2”. I LOVE the way monkey pod changes colors when you move it! (chatoyance?) it changes from a black/deep brown to a golden brown color. definitely on my list of favorite woods. when you are turning it, if you don’t wear a mask, you will end up coughing quite badly. finished with spray lacquer.

And last but not least is a cherry bowl. this is the first piece i used tung oil on, and i think it turned out nicely. 8.5”x4.5.

(Super Glue)
The parts for the pepper mill were attained from an old beat up one from goodwill :)

The camphor pen was turned way too big… but it still turned out nicely :)

And the last pic is of a rosewood pen i made for a good friend of mine, he’s been milling camphor, rosewood, hickory, a couple different pines, monkey pod, live oak, and flamewood. Hes been giving me a bunch of big pieces which ill show off a bit in another post.

Veryyy sturdy, all cast iron, but i’m not sure what the bed is. Has forward and reverse which is verry useful. The lathe is very easy to use.
The bowl on there is monkeypod from a wood gloat, i was told the tree had a bees nest on top somewhere, and that it had been struck by lightning! so i’m eager to see the grain, although there has been aloooot of tearout.. but i think that might be because its still wet.. hopefully.
I would definitely recommend this lathe to anyone.
I’m not really sure what to say about the lathe so if you have any questions please ask.
Also, i’m waiting on a supernova2 to come in the mail, should be here around the 22.

Both woods were from a wood gloat, for $20 i got a bit of soft maple, a bunch of cherry, a whole bunch of brazillian oak (which smells absolutely amazing, better than cedar imo) some white oak, a little cypress, and a little poplar.
The second picture is the brazillian oak, and the third is cherry. I noticed my first and last turnings sucked, while the others turned out very good.
All four bowls are finished with beeswax, and they are roughly around 4.5×1.5.
Out of a 1-10, id give em a 6 i think.

So now i have some live oak, a huge piece of rosewood, three more huge pieces of camphor, and a bit of monkey pod.
This box was sanded to 400, and then coated with beeswax because it was still wet. The lid fits nice and tight.

Please post any comments or critiques as i am still learning.
Thanks, Mike

A couple Bowls!

The first two pics are of a bowl previously on here, now with a beeswax finish put on with a dremel

The last two are pics of a bowl using the same wood and finish, i spalted it myself by putting a beer and wood shavings in a bag for couple weeks, it worked pretty good, but i had it in too long so it rotted and a piece popped off while i was turning,
this bowl was actually turned between centers, because i got bored lol
Beeswax is my “lazy finish”, because its readily available, and its extremely easy to apply
any guesses on the wood?? someone said it might be a gum, but i dont really know what that is

should of had five pics, but im having trouble uploading them…

A couple bowls, the first is from a stump I found in the park close to my house, if you know what kind of wood it is it would be extremely helpful!
It turned nicely, and has no finish yet as it was turned green, dimensions are: 3 1/4×1 14/16 walls are about 1/48
thick, i’ll show pics when it has a finish
The second is some kind of maple, made it for my mom for Christmas
Dimensions are about the same of the other, but the walls are much thicker

Workin on getting a supernova, but it won’t fit the lathe I have, 1964 or ‘48 Logan Lathe, it’s for metal, but it’ll work fine for what i’m doin
So right now I have to do all the turning without being able to remount it…
