I know there area few Furniture Medics on Lumberjocks. I have a lot of old supplies I need to get rid of that are still good (Melt sticks, stains, etc), and I am willing to sell for any reasonable price. Also, I have a HVLP that I just haven’t used, so I am ready to get rid of it too. Make an offer. Lastly, I have an FM display I u...

I have read about how you can do this kind of thing by hand, taking a photo and calculating the size of a piece of furniture to recreate ...

Advice Sought: Squaring my POS sliding mitre saw - 18 replies
Hey gang, The draw on my sliding mitre saw. It’s a POS I picked up at a garage sale, but it runs, and I’d to see if I can salvage it. When I push (or pull) I don’t get a straight, 90 degree cut to the length of the board. Say, after the cut, I have a 2 foot board on one length, I have 2’ 1/8 on the other. Is th...

Hey Gang, Just wanted to share with you a success story. I made my workbench a couple years ago, but always suffered from a crummy table top. It wasn’t level, was bumpy, and I got paint all over it. Well, a couple weeks back Lumberjock fave Marc Spagnuolo, The Wood Whisperer, posted a video on very simple way of leveling table top ...

OK, another question this evening. How do you guys measure the distance from the router bit to the fence to properly cut your dados in the right distance from the edge of your boards? Now, I’m sure the guys with the fancy router tables with the snazzy Jessem router table fence just say something like “dial it in”. Well, yo...

Question: Board glue up - Wide or Narrow boards? - 21 replies
Here’s a question… When you gluing up multiple wide boards (for say a table top or a box lid), does it matter if they are all the same width? Does it matter if they are wide or narrow? What are the pros and cons? FYI, Good ol’ Norm made a practice of gluing up multiple narrow board to reach the desired width. Do you agre...

Finishing advice. Should I stain or not? - 16 replies
I’m looking for suggestions on what I might do with my pie safe. Should I stain it one color, two colors, just spray a finish on, or hand wax it? The sides just look a little funny to me, ya know? Here is a link to the blog on it. http://lumberjocks.com/Milo/blog/30697 Thank you in advance for your opinion! Milo

HELP! Mid-project screw up... - 19 replies
I made a mid-project change on a piece safe (I’m going to put raised panels on the sides rather than tin) and I need to make some rabbits along the already completed interior sections of the side walls. I don’t really want to take these things apart to do it. What would be the best way to cut these rabbits out? Router table (this ...

Dust Control: Dado cuts on a router table - 7 replies
I swear, is there NOTHING that creates more dust than cutting dados on a router table? Rabbits, not too bad, because the vacuum is right there by the bit on the edge of the piece, but dados? UGH, I cut two the other day and the dust shot out the end of the cut and went EVERYWHERE. SO, question is, do I have to lug my router outside every t...

SketchUp/iPad discovery - 0 replies
Maybe this is well know, I don’t know, but I stumbled across this the other day and thought I would share. As many of you know, there is no SketchUp for the iPad, and if you use your like me, and can’t live without your iPad, you moan about this any time you waste paper in the printer, printing up plans. Now, be it know, I am a...

Hmmm… I think that when I put the dado set on my ‘73 5hp Delta UniSaw that the blades are dropping into down when I push a board over them. I may be happening with a single blade also. As you can imagine, this can be a PAIN when you trying to cut out dados and rabbits! Does anyone have any ideas why this is occurring, and how...
