Hey North Florida Jocks, Is the lumber supply place in Blountstown that offered exotics closed down? I can’t remember the name of the place, but when I tried to look it up online, I couldn’t find it. Any info on good supplies of wood in the Panhandle would be appreciated. Milo

Brainstorm with me, Please! - 27 replies
Hey Gang, Well, I’m moved to Florida, and my beautiful shop is no more. ARGH! :( I hope to get the ACC of my neighborhood to allow me to build a new shop in my back yard. LOTS of hoops to jump through there. I think the key will be to attach it to the house somehow… ANYWAY, the FIRST problem is this. I have an 8’x10&...

North Florida Saw Mills - 10 replies
Well, I’m heading back to Florida, and am hoping some fellow LJ’s can give me the heads up on North Florida saw mills where I can get rough cut lumber. I remember that there is a really good supplier in Blountstown, but they are not a mill. I also found Big River Cypress & Hardwood just outside Blountstown. I’ll be in ...

Hey guys, How many time have you seen a piece of furniture and think, “Boy, I’d sure like to make that…” I just got this in an email from Popular Woodworking, and was blown away. I have read about how you can do this kind of thing by hand, taking a photo and calculating the size of a piece of furniture to recreate ...

Advice Sought: Squaring my POS sliding mitre saw - 18 replies
Hey gang, The draw on my sliding mitre saw. It’s a POS I picked up at a garage sale, but it runs, and I’d to see if I can salvage it. When I push (or pull) I don’t get a straight, 90 degree cut to the length of the board. Say, after the cut, I have a 2 foot board on one length, I have 2’ 1/8 on the other. Is th...

Hey Gang, Just wanted to share with you a success story. I made my workbench a couple years ago, but always suffered from a crummy table top. It wasn’t level, was bumpy, and I got paint all over it. Well, a couple weeks back Lumberjock fave Marc Spagnuolo, The Wood Whisperer, posted a video on very simple way of leveling table top ...

OK, another question this evening. How do you guys measure the distance from the router bit to the fence to properly cut your dados in the right distance from the edge of your boards? Now, I’m sure the guys with the fancy router tables with the snazzy Jessem router table fence just say something like “dial it in”. Well, yo...

Question: Board glue up - Wide or Narrow boards? - 21 replies
Here’s a question… When you gluing up multiple wide boards (for say a table top or a box lid), does it matter if they are all the same width? Does it matter if they are wide or narrow? What are the pros and cons? FYI, Good ol’ Norm made a practice of gluing up multiple narrow board to reach the desired width. Do you agre...

I’m looking for suggestions on what I might do with my pie safe. Should I stain it one color, two colors, just spray a finish on, or hand wax it? The sides just look a little funny to me, ya know? Here is a link to the blog on it. http://lumberjocks.com/Milo/blog/30697 Thank you in advance for your opinion! Milo

I made a mid-project change on a piece safe (I’m going to put raised panels on the sides rather than tin) and I need to make some rabbits along the already completed interior sections of the side walls.
