« Part 5: Leg joinery and plugs Part 6 of Making a shadowbox table for a hero series Part 7: nearer and nearer »

Today I started assembly and more finishing. I installed all four sides and the lower shelf, built the shadow box top, and installed all but seven plugs. I put it together as it’s going to sit and I’m happy with the look of it. Next I will install the base, the divider for the shadow box from the drawers, the drawers themselves and hardware.

That is looking fantastic. It’s been fun seeing this come together. He is really going to appreciate this. The upper an lower book matching turned out well and your decision to flip the boards was right on.

Thank you Rod, I love to get a balanced project and I love figured wood; sometimes those are mutually exclusive. I’m sure he will appreciate this, but in this case it’s more about showing my appreciation for his sacrifice. When our commander read the incident report during his award of the purple heart, I was amazed he lived and he went forward with the mission even wounded.
