« Part 2: Dyes mixed and first coat on Part 3 of Homage to Trifern - attempting the 2 dye 4 vase series Part 4: Yellow makes the colors complete »

Sanded back the black semi-aggressively with 150, trying to emphasize the natural blotch and open up a little more color area for the read dye. Starting to look like something interesting already. I tried as much as possible to sand with the natural light trends in the black with emphasis on avoiding too many repeated straight strokes.

I wiped the red on heavy with a paper towel and didn’t wipe back with a clean paper towel this time. It darkened the lighter black areas very well and I was worried that wiping it back would take off too much of the red from the hard to dye areas. After the read dyes, I’ll go over the red with 220 and create some places for the yellow to really show.

Though I’m starting to think that it might turn out ok.
