no previous part Part 1 of Hand planes series Part 2: Antique mall pick-ups »

So a couple years ago my wife and I decided to remodel the kitchen (long overdue) and part of the project was ripping out all the carpeting downstairs and installing hardwood floors and new stair treads and risers. This project brought about my first hand plane purchase (a Wood River block plane) which I hardly used for the project and didn’t really look at it again until recently.
So fast forward to late last year and I’m making some cutting boards for Christmas presents and in searching the web for what I can’t remember, I came across the LJ site and started reading through the forums and my interest in the hand plane world begins.
Off I go to the auction listings on the bay and decide finally to bid on a Wards Master no 3 hand plane and win. The plane arrives and I unbox it:

Sure doesn’t look like a Wards Master plane to me??? Looks like a Union no 4 – contact seller-whoops-sent wrong one-wait another week-oops can’t find it anymore-so luckily seller refunds my bid and tells me to keep the plane.

Inspection shows side cracked, tote broken and real dirty-Looks like good 1st restoration attempt. Here are the rest of the pics:

So the journey has begun-no shaving pic for this one-it works pretty decently-but don’t want to chance breaking out the side any worse than it already is.

-more soon-thanks for reading along
