Done in Basswood. Am making 2 opposites of the same so when this is cleaned up I need to start on the second.

or I may be wasting my own time. Comments let me know if I should continue…..

Tried my hand at heating and bending steel and added a sasafrass handle.

Had a bit of scraps none the same size or even so tried a shoulder plane.

The Main Part is Oak, as well as the wedge, the sides are bubinga, the sole is wenge, with some brass rod and the blade is cold steel 3/4” wide by 1/4” thick now I have to finish sharpening and temper the blade.

I am going to try with the shaving exit hole just on one side

This is a copy of a plane I have in miniature. I intend on using this as the opening mechanism for a lid on a box.

Ain’t got that far but the plane is done. I tried to make it look used by adding a little india ink and alchohol to give it a little grease look. Like oil from years of use.

Or maybe I am just a bit crazy for making this. Took about 2 hours total, including making the Stainless Blade.

It does actually WORK, on balsa or basswood. It is one piece of basswood and an oak dowel, a brass rod and a stainless steel blade.

So, I made a little mallet using oak 1×2’s as the head.

It is about 6 ounces, great for little carvings I have been doing by hand.

It was just the shape, and then I had to use it for something…...

I still have some of that Sassafrass stick left who knows….....
