no previous part Part 1 of Southwest Cocktail table series Part 2: Simplify ..... sort of.... »

I designed a cocktail table that I thought would be awesome. I spent ALL day yesterday cutting the top pieces. Late last night I tried a dry fit because because I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t. It’s AWFUL.

It is SO Bad that I’m Scraping a lot of my design. However, I can make some of this work for me.

The center section needs a bit of help because:

The Oak spacers are about 1/64 ” too wide. Who would have thought?. I’m keeping the center section. With a little tweaking, I can create a good interest point in the center of the table. The center section will be the only pattern on this table. I still have 2 end tables to build so I should salvage most of my cuts.

The Oak is not uniform in color. I don’t know why I inserted little interesting bits of oak in the center of my pattern. All they do is detract. I’ll be using as featureless pieces as I can find.

More later. I’ll try to take better pictures next time.

Don’t make cutting boards out of your table just yet.

I sent you a P.M. read it 1st.

It’s not always how badly we err, but how well we can recover.
