Shop progress #4: Pictures are on the way.

I know.. I need to post some pics.

I will set up an account with one of the sites and start posting soon.

I will not be able to get them tonight as we are cutting one of our offices over to a wireless connection. I hope that it will go well and I can get home early. I still have work to do on the key of the piano and some rearanging in the office. I cannot decide if I should take the lathe and accesories out of the office or leave them in there.

The office is the only area that is air conditioned.

I did spend a bunch of time cataloging all the the plans that I have. My wife wanted to help me get organized so we sat down and went through every magazine that I have collected over the past 5 years and indexed the plans on 3X5 cards and put them in a holder. Now if I need to build a chair I can look in the cards for chairs and know where I can find the plans for them.

I have also purchased Cutlist plus and entered the plans for every cabinet size from the book “the cabinet makers reference guide” I think that there are just over 100 plans in there. I hope to computerize all of the plans I have and have them availible in the office as well as the high speed internet connection to surf the net.

Well back to work.

I have been away for a while and things have changed.

My Wife and I celebrated our 20th and got away for a few days…Nice.

I was checking craigslist and found a baby grand piano for sale cheap. My wife has always wanted one but we have never been able to afford one. This one was for sale for $150. The owner started to restore it and found that it was way more than he could do and the quote to restore it was about $10,000.00 so he sold it to me.

I picked it up and started to work on it this weekend. I started by taking pictures and am thinking of bloging the whole process. It is a little intimidating but exciting.

I counitue to make some progress on the shop and hope to pick up more building supplies soon.

Thank you all for the comments. I never really thought about humidity levels…Now I will. I got a Grizzly catalog in the mail last night and was drooling over the 8” Jointers. I have a HF jointer that my wife bought for me.

I never made it out to the shop last night as I ended up tripple booking myself. I had two things going on at church and a concert at the school. Life sometimes interupts my woodworking interuption of life.
it seems like work interupts more than ever. I sit at work thinking about what I can doo in the shop and with the kids ( and checking WW forums and sites) I work in IT so sit at tth PC watching firewalls, servers etc.. Patch this update that… oh for a simpler time.

I spoke with a friend about fire extinguishers (he is a local fire chief) I no have that plan set out and only need about $200 to get what I need.. I guess that is a small price when you look at the cost of equiptment. Or worse. Do you have adequite fire extinguishers in your shop?

Well back to work virus alert. Don’t you wish people had better things to do with thier time!!!

Shop progress #1: The begining towards the end

Soo many choices soo little money.

I am in the process of buildin my dream shop and seems like it will take me 20 years to get it done. I guess it is because I am trying to do it without going into debt too much.

to start it is a 48X40 metal sided pole building located in Mid-Michigan, It is a newer building with a cement floor that was with the house we moved into almost two years ago.

The office is 11X24 and has a seperate heater and AC. I have all of my turning stuff in there.

the “Main” shop floor is 47X30 and I just finished putting OSB on all of the walls, the OSB is screwed to the beams that hold the metal siding on. I plan to put studs between the 4X6’s and insulate and then put up ? OSB of Drywall. (decision 1)

I ran a few 240V circuits for table saw and dust collector.

I have put rolled insulation in about 1/3 of the ceiling but $$$$. I may just put osb on ceiling and then blow in insulation. (remember Mi. ). but I need 41 sheets of OSB to cover the ceiling!!!

I still have to figure out what i will do woth the two sliding doors that measure about 10X12. I want to take the back one out but SWMBO says NOOOOO. I like it.

Then I need to find a heater. I was thinking about two. One that will burn wood pelets to keep the temp stable and the other to burn regular wood ( and mistakes/ cutoffs)
I will have a few pics once I figure out how to post.

It seems like this process is a long line of compromises and that is a bit frustrating.
I want this …but I can afford this.
