Mortise Pal

Well thanks to New Tim, a new acquisition has been made for the shop. I ordered the Mortise Pal and I can’t wait for it to get into the shop. At the Mortise Pal, website, they had asked “how did you hear about us” so naturally, I gave New Tim and Lumber jocks the credit they deserve. I figure if we let the manufactures know the strength of Lumber jocks, it may help out the next person who is looking for the next new tool that will make our life easier in the shop.

I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Spectator Chair

Been out of the shop for a while, seems like forever with crazy work schedules and the other stuff that seems to take time away. I decided that it was time to clear out the cob webs and fire some tools up. For a while, I have been looking at spectator chairs for my basement pool room and I figured that would be a good project to get back into the shop.

I started with Popular to build a prototype, the final chairs will be quarter sawn white oak and I plan on trying my luck with fuming to get that aged look. I am just about done with the tooling, just need to finish fitting the chair arms to the back supports. I will be in setting the back of the arm into the upright and allowing the cut out to sit on the front post. once complete I will add some cloud lift corbels under the arm for added support.

http://i530.photobucket.com/albums/dd347/Maddhatter13/IMG00085-20100228-1117.jpg

once all that is done, I will start on the sanding, finish and top coat.

Workshop News #2: News from the shop Dec 08

Greetings from the shop, it is good to be back in the shop again. Work, travel, home projects, daily demands seem to take away from the shop time. I have found time to get out there and do some re-organization projects. I added another tool board to the work bench wall and a rolling table produced from one sheet a plywood. I used the design from one of the wood working mags (Popular Woodworking, I think). The table is great, I use it a cut off table for the table saw and the drum sander. It sits in the middle of the shop with a storage shelf and drawer on wheels. A good choice for my shop and once I find the article I will add it for all to see.

I have also added the Worksharp 3000 and all I can say is what a machine. I have cleaned up my chisels and planes. If you do not have one, I would suggest adding it to your shop arsenal of support tools. There is a great tool review article up on the wood central that details the usefulness of the machine better than I can.

Well here we are, another week has gone by and the only dust I have produced has been from sheetrock. I started out on a simple project of changing out a cable for the TV and found that the last owner of my house had run the TV and Phone cables through metal studs in the basement with out chafing protectors.

Needless to say for the last two weeks I have been tearing down sheet rock, running cables, and replacing walls. Just goes to show you that there is never enough time to do it right, however, there is always enough time to do it twice.

I will, however, get some sawdust out of the job though. In the process of replacing the sheetrock, I framed in the in the power panel and I will take the opportunity to build some frame and panel doors for panel.

Got to get something out of it to feed the addiction… Right…
