This pile of lumber may not look like much but it will magically turn in to two of my Fishy Coffee Tables and a Toy Box. :-) Turns out I need another 10 feet of white pine, so off to the store I go tomorrow.
It makes it easy that a lot of the work for all three projects can be done ahead of time in a batch. Things like ripping the edges off the 2×4’s and ripping the 1×12 white pine into three pieces each. All of that was after I cut them into rough lengths so it would be easier to rip, joint and plane.
All of the 2x lumber has been ripped, jointed and planed to the working dimensions. Last thing tonight I glued up the four legs for the first coffee table. All 8 pieces are clamped together in one bundle but only the two mating surfaces of each leg have glue between them. Should be easy to duplicate this tomorrow. Then I will run them through the joiner and the planer until they are all square.
I am holding off until I get the other white pine cut and ripped before doing any of the planing. It is hard to get flat 1×12’s any more so I plan to rip them, then glue up the panels for the toy box out of the long pieces. The shorter ones will be the top and bottom shelf planks for the coffee tables.
Here are the pics of my progress so far.
