Another Maloof style rocker

The Maloof style rocker seems to be almost as ubiquitous as Norm’s router table and here is my attempt. This is my first rocker (there will be others) using the plans from Hal Taylor ( http://www.rockingchairs.net/ ). As this is my prototype, I have more than a couple of ideas on how the next chair will go. The wood is walnut finished with Deft Danish oil.

Roll Top Desk

This project took me over a year, working one or two hours at a time after work and after the kids went to bed. The tambour was made using the Amana Tambour Door Set which allows you to create interlocking slats – no need to glue to fabric or connect with wires. I choose QS white oak because I love the way the rays look once it’s finished – but it’s really heavy to move!

The plans were from American Furniture Design, and yes…. I added 4 hidden compartments.
The finish was:
........TransTint Mission dye
........General Finishes Candelite oil stain
........shellac
........General Finished Candelite gel stain
........multiple coats of General Finishes Arm-R-Seal satin
