no previous part Part 1 of Wood Trip!! series Part 2: Getting the Shop ready »

Today I made a long trip(and I mean only 50 miles each way) to Chicago to a custom cabinet shop named Vero Designs to buy some lumber scraps. When I saw the ad online I was intrigued ad sent an email out. I told him that I am new to woodworking and was looking for end grain cutting board material. The guy Quinn told me he had bundles of lumber which were mostly hard maple and walnut with some wenge and sapele. I ended up getting all of it! I feel that I got a great deal with over 100 bd ft for $60!! I am going to have to start building things and not just buy things. I kinda feel like a hoarder at times…. but I need to go and do it. Stop researching the best way and just try it damn it!

Thanks for listening

Nice score! Get out in the shop/garage/shed/basement/bedroom, and get working! You’ll thank yourself in the morning.

First, as others have said you got a good deal. I wish I could stumble into something like this.

When you figure out how to overcome the research – thinking phase and get to the “just do it” phase let me know because I suffer from the same problem.

You, sir, are preaching to the choir. It’s amazing the amount of wood and parts you can find for next to nothing – even free. I find myself staring down every alley way and industrial driveway looking for pallets and other things people have tossed out. I’m a borderline hoarder for sure. But I see so many people make such great things from re purposed materials I feel like I can do the same. Which, if you ever watch any of he hoarder shows, is EXACTLY what they say, too ;/

I say, as long as you have room to store it, get what you can. Good score!
