This Alder desk was my last high school woodworking project ever. It was very much fun. I built everything old style: all mortise and tennon and dovetail dado, with no nails whatsoever. It will be going in my dads office for a large computer desk. To give a scale, the top is 71” X 40”. Im gonna miss high school woodshop though for sure..

Finished Credenza!

FINALLY! This credenza has been on the back of my mind sitting in the back of the shop at my school for over a year. Finally i did the finishing touches on it to finish it for my dads office. This started out as a project my dad and I started last year in a night woodshop class. we never finished it and, upon realization that I’m almost graduated, decided it was time to pull it out. It had various dents and marks from just sitting there with people banging it upon passing by every once in a while, but the putty and sanding worked miracles! It is now in my dads office and looks great! It soon will have a matching computer desk that should be on here within a month or so.. Both are knotty alder (a personal favorite).

I built this dresser in school woodshop. it is built out of Knotty Alder. The inlays on the front raised panels are walnut. Both sides are double raised panels also. I’ve learned alot from this one, like every one. i finished this with Sanding Sealer and Laquer. im not exactly sure what brand it is, but to me it looks great.

Twin Bed

I built this bed in woodshop starting in the end of august and finished in november. both the headboard and the footboard are double raised panels. The inlays on the footboard are mahogany and on the headboard they are walnut. It is probably the best project i’ve ever built. During the finishing process, we didn’t have any sanding sealer, only topcoat. So we put 3 coats of topcoat with a light sanding in between each coat.

Finished Nightstand

This is the finished nightstand product. it took me a long time to get this on here, ive been real busy lately. this is made from knotty alder, and i finished it with two coats of sanding sealer, scuff sanding between coats, and one top coat of laquer. I really like the look of this finish on knotty alder, so i do most all my alder projects with it. this was a very fun project, and i learned alot from it. The hinges are european made by blum and can adjust in any direction. they are used for inset doors to even out the gaps. Inside the cabinet is an adjustable shelve. It works very well for my woodworking catalogs. I have some more shelves coming and should be on within two weeks (hopefully sooner). Thanks!

these pictures were taken last night at me and my dads woodshop class that were taking. we glued the legs to the two side aprons (mortise and tennon) after making a 3/4” dado in both bottom aprons for the bottom shelf that you see sitting on the ground. if you look closely, you will see that on the long bottom shelf there are little notches on the corners, we couldn’t glue the shelf on because we still needed to make these notches a little bigger. its coming along pretty good so far, and im hoping for the same luck in the future! until next week…..
