I've been woodworking for about 10 years. Mainly building Shaker and Arts & Crafts style furniture. I've never built anything from someone else's plans. For me, part of the pleasure I get is from creating my work from scratch. I must admit to being a bit of a Normite in the past although I've been making a concerted effort lately to use more hand tools in my projects and I really enjoying that aspect of it. I just moved into a new house in Dec of 06 and I'm now building a detached garage/woodshop. The problem is that when it's finished I won't be able to afford any wood!!

Welcome! I thought I recognized the landscape in your shop construction photos. I’m in the AF and I’ve spent 5 years in MD (Ft. Meade). I always got my lumber at Hardwoods Inc. in Fredrick and once I discovered that joe woodworker lived nearby, I got all of my veneer from him. I sure miss the availability of good hardwoods around there. I was sorely mistaken in assuming it would be that convenient everywhere else. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone…

We would like to welcome you to the one and only LumberJocks. If you should need any woodworking question answered, don’t hesitate to ask. Somebody’s gonna have a good answer for you.
