A not sooo short glimpse of my workshop

Hi folks,

While my ankle is healing fast and I can make my trek to the workshop using my automated fireman’s-pole, I thought I’d slip in this blog in the warmth and comfort of my house before the missus gets back from boot camp causing me to drink to the level I cannot compose a word let alone a sentence (yes, that is my sentence… the missus).

I have had a few questions about my workshop by both friends, strangers and potential burglars, so while I still have the time I thought I’d publish this collection of photos I started to document for insurance purposes but in true Ducky fashion blew it all out of all proportions. Unfortunately it does not give my “commented on jigs” any worthwhile coverage, however, there may be a few pictures that could give someone ideas or generate a question that I would try to answer.

Crowie, you will notice the missus failed me on my cleaning exams and I was devastated when she wouldn’t let me inside the house (to clean it).

The following is a link to the PDF built on DropBox. Hope the link and permissions work.
An added benefit of the PDF on DropBox is the ability to combine more photos in higher resolution that can be viewed both online and offline (if downloaded).

(Latest Update: Permissions don’t work, read comment #5. Don’t go to my ”workshop” page as it has been added after this post and will only bring you back here and after a few circuits you’ll get dizzy.)

(Latest Latest Update: Try this...)

Gents and anyone else that may be interested, Unfortunately LJ doesn’t advertise how to post PDF’s (if one can… though I prefer a 6 pack) and as mentioned, in Ducky fashion, I amassed a tad over 95 photos which might have LJ objecting to buying an extra hard drive not to mention robbing me of valuable drinking time for the uploads. Furthermore it appear that my attempt to give global access to the link failed… If anyone knows how to I’d love to know.

I’ll try Photobucket first… nope, wont let me upload PDFs.

If you don’t mind sharing your email address with me at alex@karapens.com and I can send an invite. Again if anyone knows how to use the LJ email I’d appreciate it.

Having said all that, the pictures may not be that inspirational to warrant a large effort.

Marijuana, or as Norm would say HI,

Read this first…, But if you don’t practice the Mandarin style of reading from right to left you arrived at this last.

If you don t mind sharing your email address with me at alex@karapens.com ...

Just had a quick thought, overnight. In case you may be a bit concerned about getting your private email address automatically/unwillingly registered in some strangers address book, an alternative would be to send it via LJ which means that I can just cut and paste and the link would be lost once I delete the email and will not get registered in my email hierarchy automatically.

Sorry for not thinking of this before, for anyone that has already opened their lives to me.

Pleasure younger Dad, when I read your workshop pointer to the first blog, I didn’t realise you were authoring a long running serial. Must read all before I start to quack again.

Have read your workshops metamorphosis and you spin a great yarn and seem nearly a mental as I am, with less cuss words (you that is). Unfortunately you may need to demote or greatly reduce your scriptwriters wages. The final episode of your workshop showed just a tad less than 1 picture of the real layout and machinery of the inside of the workshop. How can I organise a crew to “borrow’ the items I need.

G’Day Alex, My goodness me, what an extensive array of equipment, tools and hardware plus the space to securely keep and organize the whole shebang; a shed most Aussie blokes would just dream of and if invited to visit would just drool not knowing which way to turn to look next.
Your website “karapens” is pretty swish too sir, yes one can tell you’ve worked in the computer industry.
Thank you for sending the link as I scrolled through the nearly 100 pages I was just a gog at the extent of your shed, it’s layout and organization…top shed and it has a lift…..

Unfortunately that’s where it stops. I started making pens a while back and my intention was to concentrate on high end fountain pens (the ones you proudly give to siblings as a graduation present (or use as a beating stick if they fail – some pens are quite heavy with their 22 carat gold inlays) or to an executive that has everything, for his mahogany desk).

Even with the best intentions, word of mouth, by acquaintances and friends, has a limited distribution and in an endeavour to swell my Churchill kingdom’s coffers I commissioned someone to design a distribution WEB site for me (I am a mainframe know it all that knows bugger all about PCs and the Internet).

Once set up the site was handballed to me to populate it and you may have notice a few sample entries as I tried to come to grips with the sites design idiosyncrasies. I hate reading and to continue with the WEB I had to read… I stagnated (and am still to this day) and one can only stockpile pens just so far when that same one does not have an outlet for them.

It was during this stagnation that I came across T&J models and the rest is just another story to be stretched out.its.

... if invited to visit would just drool not knowing which way to turn to look next.
I do give quite a few impromptu tours and in all fairness I keep my friends/guests entertained with all the gadgetry I have bought or built aver time. Furthermore, an added bonus is my stockpile of Playboy magazines… Did I mention I hate reading… I did NOT buy them for the articles :-).
